From researching and developing my knowledge of magazines as a whole, I have found that there are many of the same genre that compete to get better sales than every other magazine company The fact that bigger magazine companies get more purchases of their product just proves that they have more money than other smaller companies (such as ones that focus on the indie genre). One of the main facts that I have learnt is the fact magazines will always have glossier paper than newspapers and the paper is thicker which makes it more luxurious to read, from a consumers perspective.
One of the most important aspects of any magazines when on the shop floor, is the front cover. This is the element that consumes look for most of all. As there are normally a lot of magazines on the shelves, it is important that one magazine cover should stand out over the others and this can be achieved achieved by making colours vibrant and visible to see. Nevertheless, if every magazine involved bright colours then in order to stand out one would have to make their magazine duller y using colours such as greys and blacks.
As well as these aspects, I have also learnt that strap lines and cover lines play a big role in attracting the readers attention when buying a magazine. For example, a magazine such as 'Q' has a strap line at the top of one of their magazines of "The UK's biggest music magazine." This instantly displays to the consumer that this magazine is trustworthy and will be a good read.
Overall the information I have learnt so far will help me when coming to make my own magazine. I have understood that colours play a big part on the front cover and I will consider different colours that could have an impact on my genre.
